Thanksgiving Pumpkin

Thanksgiving is just right around the corner!  What would be better then a pumpkin carving of a turkey for the center piece of your Thanksgiving table?  Apparently there seems to be a lot of interest in just that: to have a beautiful pumpkin carving of a turkey as the center piece on a wonderfully decorated Thanksgiving table.  The problem: where to find a pumpkin?  Much less, a pumpkin carving of a turkey?  The way I was able to have this nice pumpkin was to go to a fruit yard we have on the outskirts of town and purchase a nicely fresh pumpkin.  As you know pumpkins seem to disappear shortly after Halloween.  There are a lot of farmers, however, who plant pumpkins a little later for just that reason; to keep selling fresh pumpkins into Thanksgiving.  After all, just because Halloween is over, we still love pumpkin pies; and what would be Thanksgiving dinner without pumpkin pie desert?  Right?  As far as finding a pumpkin carving, well, that’s a different story altogether!

If you are not very artistic and you don’t know anyone who carves pumpkins in your area, you might think you might just have to do without the pumpkin turkey.  In my opinion, however, I believe that anyone can carve a beautiful pumpkin, turkey or no turkey (refer below to the picture of “Charlie Brown Pumpkin”).  All one must have is the right tools, a little patience, and most importantly, the right attitude!  By the right attitude, I mean to have fun with it and understand that even if it does not come out exactly how you would like it to be, you enjoyed the process and you learned something.  Just know that next time it will only get better.

So, my friends, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and that you will have lots of fun carving your next pumpkin master piece.

Until then, I’ll see you soon!

P.S.  I am thinking of making a video of the next turkey pumpkin carving… look forward to seeing it on here soon.
